Of all the decisions made in compiling this elite list of 60, there were few easier choices than this one. While there were many sports legends during the 1990s (do the names Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa ring a bell?), Michael Jordan's achievements in the 1990s, both on the court and off, were nothing short of legendary.
In the 1990s, Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships, earning four Most Valuable Player awards along the way. The 1990s also saw Jordan's leadership of the 1992 Olympic "Dream Team" that dominated the rest of the world en route to a Gold Medal. He most likely would have achieved even more during the decade if he hadn't quit basketball for nearly two full seasons as he pursued his ill-fated dream of becoming a Major League Baseball player.
In the business world, Jordan's impact nearly equaled his impact on the court. His endorsements of Nike, Coke, Hanes, McDonald's, Rayovac, Wheaties and Gatorade make him one of the highest paid endorsers in history. Jordan's association with Nike may have been the greatest single marriage in the history of sports marketing.
Jordan even brought his Midas touch to the film industry. His movie, Space Jam, which combined live actors with such animated characters as Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, grossed over $230 million worldwide.
