According to Barnes, the Web database offers comprehensive and biographical coverage, including the following data elements: birth data; family; education; career history; creative works; awards; military history; achievements; current memberships; interests/hobbies; and contact information. The user-friendly design of the new site provides two search options: (1) Name Search, in which users can search quickly by name only; and (2) Advanced Search, in which they can search using up to 15 different criteria, such as age, gender, address, occupation, education, and political affiliation. The site also provides helpful "Search Tips" to assist users with their online research.

The new Web product then displays the biographies in the concise Marquis style that reference professionals and other researchers have come to appreciate, with the information now being presented under subject headings - such as education, career and professional memberships - so that it's easier for Web users to read.
